Writing about Bongholeo? Please link to bongholeo.com as the official site and to the Cranford account for the July 7 meeting. The facts below are the ones reporters most often get wrong.
- NAMEBongholeo (one word, pronounced bong-HO-lee-oh). Also seen in print as Bong Holeo, Bong-Holeo, Bongholio and Bong Holio. The person: Mike Vintzileos. The baby-bong prop: Bongholito.
- WHATA civic-satire persona — a giant purple bong costume — used to deliver public comment at New Jersey municipal meetings, and a YouTube channel of about 230 meeting tapes.
- WHYPublic-comment rights and local government accountability: time limits, prop and costume bans, name-and-address rules, meetings adjourned mid-comment, the Flock camera contract in Franklin Township, the $1.8 billion AI data center in Kenilworth.
- ARRESTSHe was not arrested at any Cranford meeting in 2026. The July 7, 2026 Cranford arrest was a different speaker, William Thilly. After his August 18, 2026 return to Cranford he was charged by summons with disorderly conduct and disturbing a public gathering — allegations he is contesting. His one arrest at a council meeting was in Lavallette, NJ, on July 24, 2023, for filming the meeting; the charge was dismissed and he sued the borough in federal court in 2025.
- KIMMELThe Cranford clip was featured on Jimmy Kimmel Live in a monologue by guest host Tiffany Haddish during her July 6–9, 2026 hosting week ("You're looking at the next President of the United States!"), as reported by Heady NJ.
- HISTORYThe character predates the viral clip: Hudson County View described him in costume at a Bayonne council meeting in March 2022, Insider NJ at a Madison hearing in February 2023.
